Timothy was elected judge of the middle judicial district circuit of the Cherokee Nation 7 August 1871 and 2 August 1875. He was elected senator from the Illinois District 4 August 1879 and judge from the same district 1 August 1881. Timothy was elected superintendent of the Cherokee National Female Seminary in 1883.
